How to measure your window correctly

Making sure you take the correct measurements of your window will help you to avoid serious mistakes in sizes, and it means that you will be able to choose the right size of a curtain when ordering it, and will get the best result.

At first, measure the width of the curtain-rod. It is better to use a metal ruler or tape-measure when measuring. The width measurement of the curtain-rod will help you define the width of your curtain.

To define the length of your curtain, you need to measure the distance from the curtain-rod to the floor. And for a short kitchen curtain, you need to measure the distance from the curtain-rod to the window-sill or to the point where you would like your curtain to end. If your curtain-rod has rings with hooks to which you are going to fix your curtain, then you need to measure the distance from the lowest point of the ring on your curtain-rod to the floor. The best solution though would be to hang the curtains, the length of which would be from the curtain-rod to the floor. These kind of curtains will give your room a presentable look. Current fashions also allow you to hang curtains of this length, where the fabric of the curtains will fall on to the floor in beautiful waves.

 Chart

1 – the distance from the ceiling mounted curtain-rod to the floor

2 – the distance from the curtain-rod to the floor

3 – the distance from a ring to the floor, for a curtain-rod with rings

4 – the distance from the curtain-rod to the window-sill, for the measurement of the hight of a kitchen curtain

5 – the length of the curtain-rod

For example, you took the measurements, and the width of the curtain-rod on your window is 250cm. The length from the curtain-rod to the floor is 240cm. When choosing the size of a PhotoCurtain, we recommend to add 20cm to each meter of a curtain-rod. i.e. if the width of the curtain-rod is 250cm, you need to choose a curtain with the width of 290cm. When choosing  a panoramic PhotoCurtain, you need to add 30-40cm to each meter of a curtain-rod, as these designs are intended for curtain-rods of 3metres and longer. I.e. if your curtain-rod is 3m long, you add 30cm to each meter, so it means that you need to order a curtain with the width of 390cm. Or if you choose  to add 40cm to each meter of a 3m long curtain-rod, then the necessary width of the curtain will be 420cm.

You should take into account that such kinds of window cloth as gabardine and sateen are not very thick, and you have to make sure that you add 20-30cm to the width of a curtain-rod, or 30-40cm if it is a panoramic curtain. Blackout fabric is thick drape cloth, so you can choose the width of a curtain from this fabric to be the same as the width of a curtain-rod, 1:1 without any additions. I.e. if the width of your curtain-rod is 250cm, you can order the width of a curtain from blackout fabric the same 250cm.

If you are ordering a PhotoNetCurtain from chiffon or voile fabric, you need to add 20-50cm to each meter of a curtain-rod. When buying an ordinary net curtain without a photografic picture, you need to take double the width of a curtain-rod, it means that if the width of a curtain-rod is 250cm then the width of an ordinary net curtain would be 500cm. Such a width is not necessary for a PhotoNetCurtain – 20-50cm is enough to add to each metre of the width of your curtain-rod, and it will give your windows a perfect look!

Of course, these are just our recommendations, to be used as a guideline, ultimately the final decision will be yours, made according to your own individual tastes. As you are the one who should be completely happy with your curtains!
